Rescuing a Stray Kitten | Wonderful World of Puppies | BBC Earth

Not all kittens, however,
are lucky enough to find themselves at the heart of a loving family
in this rescue shelter in Wiltshire.
Is sassy.
No one knows exactly when she was born,
but she’s estimated to be around 13 weeks old.
A month ago, she was found
living on the streets
dangerously underweight and in a bad way.
But with a bit of love and three meals a day
for the first time in her life,
she’s now healthy and happy.
And today,
she may be about to get a second helping of luck.
A family that have come to see her once are coming back again
after being found in the streets.
13 week old Sassy has been living at this rescue
home in Wiltshire,
but today she’s about to be given a second chance.
A loving
family have decided to give her a home
again and the carriage taking her to a new life
is a cozy carrier crate.
We may not like being cooped up,
but our kittens prefer small, safe spaces.
That’s got that.
So it’s the perfect way to settle this story
during her life changing journey.
It to happen and she doesn’t have far to go.
Her lovely new home is only 10 minutes away.
Sassy may never have been inside a house
this big before,
so the first secret to settling in
will be introducing her to one room at a time,
starting with the kitchen.
All right.
We’re going to go to
our new mum.
Ensures these first few moments are calm. Once
you need to say yes.
Your life
is especially important for rescue kittens who may never have experienced
the sounds, smells and sensations of a home before
and sassy instinctively searches for somewhere safe
and as high as possible.
It doesn’t take long
before she finds the spot
as a fiercely territorial species.
Our kittens can feel extremely vulnerable in unknown environments,
so Sassy is given as much time as she needs to soak in
these strange new surroundings for the very first time.
But it only takes a couple of minutes
before she feels secure enough to start exploring for real.
And with this newfound confidence,
she’s even venturing out into the open space on
top of the kitchen table.
But there’s one more thing
she’s yet to experience
cuddles with Mum,
which feels a little strange at first.
Strays like Sassy may have grown up
with very little human contact,
so hugs are going to take a bit of getting used to.
