When Caillou was 3 years old, he had a really bad earache. Today’s story is called “Caillou Visits the Doctor.” Caillou didn’t want to see the doctor and asked his mommy why. He said, “The doctor hurt me, mommy. But you’re much better now,” his mom reassured him. She assured Caillou that it wouldn’t hurt this time.
“The doctor’s ready for you now, Caillou. Come along,” his mom said. Caillou replied, “I don’t like her.” He even imagined his dinosaur fighting the doctor. But when Caillou arrived at the doctor’s office, the doctor greeted him warmly, saying, “Hello, Caillou. How nice to see you again.”
The doctor wanted to check Caillou’s ear and asked, “Now, how’s that ear coming along? Let’s take a look.” Caillou protested, “No, my dinosaur is going to bite you.” Caillou’s dad, who was also present, wasn’t happy to hear this and tried to reassure him.
The doctor asked Caillou if she could look in his ear, just like last time when Caillou’s ear hurt a lot. Caillou was still scared, thinking the doctor would hurt him again. But the doctor explained that she wouldn’t hurt him and asked if Caillou would like to look through the otoscope, which is used to examine the ear. Caillou found it really interesting and agreed.
After examining Caillou’s ear, the doctor reassured him that he was much better and that it wouldn’t hurt like last time. Caillou was relieved. The doctor said, “Okay, well, can I look in your ear now? You’re much better, and it won’t hurt like last time, okay?” Caillou agreed.
The doctor was pleased with Caillou’s progress and said, “I’m very pleased. You’ll be all better in a day or two.” Caillou was worried that the doctor might hurt him again and asked, “Oh no, he’s not going to bunk me, is he?” The doctor understood that Caillou wanted her to check the dinosaur’s ear. She replied, “Ah, I see. You want me to check the dinosaur’s ear, yes?” The doctor played along and said, “Hmm, hmm. I think you must have been giving him the right medicine, Dr. Caillou. Well done, Dr. Caillou. Your dinosaur is all better now.”
When Dr. Caillou got home, he couldn’t wait to find someone with an earache. He found it funny and said, “In your ears, Gilbert. I want to look in your ear.”
