Caillou – Caillou of the Antarctic (S04E09) | Cartoon for Kids

“You’re getting to be a big boy, each day I grow some more. I like exploring my way. Growing up is not so tough, except when I’ve had enough. But there’s lots of fun stuff. That’s me, Caillou of the Antarctic. Caillou of the Antarctic. In the summertime, Caillou likes to play outside with his friends Jason and Jeffrey, even when it’s a very, very hot day. ‘Over here, Caillou!’ Jason called out. ‘Pass it to me!’ Jeffrey shouted. ‘My turn over here!’ Caillou joined in. ‘Look at me!’ But then, ‘Whoops!’ Caillou accidentally bumped into Jeffrey. ‘I want to try,’ Jeffrey said. ‘Are you okay?’ Caillou’s head hurt a little bit, but not too much. Caillou was upset that Jeffrey had fallen on him. ‘It sure is hot today,’ Caillou said, trying to distract himself. ‘Phew!’ Daddy, Jeffrey fell on me,’ Caillou complained. ‘I didn’t mean to,’ Jeffrey apologized. ‘Well, it doesn’t look like a serious injury. Rosie, kiss it better,’ Daddy suggested. ‘Better?’ Rosie asked, giving Caillou a kiss. ‘Yeah, sorry, Caillou,’ Jeffrey said. ‘That’s okay, Jason. We know it was an accident,’ Caillou replied. ‘I’m Jeffrey.’ ‘I just can’t tell you two apart,’ Caillou admitted. ‘Hmm,’ Caillou still felt upset with Jeffrey. He thought his friend should have been more careful. ‘The ice! Careful, man!’ Caillou warned as Jeffrey stepped on a slippery patch. ‘Oh!’ Jeffrey slipped and fell. ‘Ice cream sounds like a pretty good idea to me,’ Daddy suggested, trying to change the mood. ‘Here, Rosie, I’ll give you a ride,’ Caillou offered, pushing Rosie on her tricycle. ‘Mr. Ice Cream Man, wait! Stop!’ Caillou called out. ‘Ice cream for all my friends!’ Caillou announced as he bought ice cream for everyone. ‘It’s nice and cold in there,’ Caillou said, enjoying the coolness. ‘I wish it was cold outside. It’s only that cold when it’s winter, but now it’s summer, and summer is hot.’ ‘It’s cold all year in Antarctica,’ Auntie explained. ‘Antarctica? Who?’ Caillou asked, confused. ‘It’s not an anti-person, Caillou. It’s a really cold place. I saw it in a book,’ Auntie clarified. ‘Hmm, Antarctica is where penguins live. Penguins love to be cold,’ Daddy added. ‘Now, everybody, hurry and pick out what you want, or everything’s going to melt. Lick a little faster, Rosie,’ Daddy encouraged. ‘Tell us more about Antarctica, Daddy,’ Caillou requested. ‘Well, the South Pole is there, and icebergs,’ Daddy explained. ‘I thought it was called the North Pole. That’s where Santa lives,’ Caillou said. ‘There are two poles. The North Pole is on the top of the Earth, and the South Pole is on the bottom,’ Daddy clarified. ‘What’s an iceberg? Is it made out of ice cream?’ Caillou asked curiously. ‘No, it’s a huge island made of snow and ice,’ Daddy answered. ‘Sticky!’ Caillou exclaimed. Caillou thought it would be wonderful if icebergs really were made of ice cream.
Hello penguins! Wow, that looks like fun. Whoa, a chocolate ice cream bird! That chocolate iceberg was delicious. Look at me, I’m a penguin! Me too! Hey, you! Whoa, oh! It sure is cold here in Antarctica. You’re cold? Well, I guess you don’t want to play in the sprinkler then. Oh, we’re not really cold. We’re just pretending. We’re really, really hot! Hot! No, I don’t believe you. Oh, whoa! Oh, so hot! Whoa! Okay, you’ve convinced me. Maybe this will cool you down. Caillou didn’t mean to step on Jeffrey’s foot. He felt bad. “I’m sorry, Jeffrey. Are you okay?” Caillou apologized. “Yeah, I’m okay,” Jeffrey reassured him. “Look out!” Caillou warned as he saw a ball coming their way. Caillou was glad that Jeffrey wasn’t mad at him, and Caillou wasn’t upset with Jeffrey anymore because he knew Jeffrey didn’t mean to fall on him. So, they were all best friends again. “Deep sea Caillou, deep sea Caillou. Can’t catch me!” Caillou sang as he pretended to swim like a shark. “Hi, I’m Caillou. What’s your name?” Caillou introduced himself to a new kid. “You stay here while I talk to your teacher, okay?” Caillou said, leaving the new kid with the teacher. “We’re playing animal tag. I’m an eagle. You can be any animal you want,” Caillou explained to his friends. “Jason’s an owl, Jeffrey’s a lion, Clementine’s a horse, and Leo is a shark. Or maybe he’s an octopus. Now I’m not sure,” Caillou continued. “Is that a new kid?” Caillou’s friend asked. “Yeah, her name is Lee Woon. She’s kind of shy,” Caillou replied. “You’re it!” Caillou’s friend tagged him, interrupting their conversation. Caillou remembered his first day at play school when he was a little shy too, until he started to make friends. “Children, this is Lee Woon. This is her very first day at play school,” the teacher introduced. Caillou and his friends welcomed Lee Woon. “I’ve got an extra special surprise for everyone today. We have an aquarium,” the teacher announced. Caillou was very excited about the new aquarium. He had never seen such beautiful fish before. “What kind of fish are they?” Caillou asked the teacher. “Well, I know that those are goldfish, and those two are angelfish,” the teacher replied. “What’s the one with the long pointy tail? Is that a baby shark?” Caillou asked curiously. “No, a shark wouldn’t fit in this aquarium,” the teacher explained. “What’s the stripy one called?” Caillou inquired. “It’s called… Yes, Lee Woon, do you know what it’s called?” the teacher asked. “I’m afraid I don’t know what they all are. I’ll bring in a book about fish tomorrow so we can all learn their names,” Lee Woon replied. “Look, there’s a little crab in that seashell,” Caillou pointed out, excitedly.
We’re also going to learn how to take care of an aquarium. The most important thing, of course, is that the fish must be fed every day. We’ll take turns feeding them. Now, I’ll reach into the magic hat and pull out today’s name, which is Caillou. “Wow, I’m the fish feeder!” Caillou exclaimed. “We don’t want to feed them too much. This should be enough,” Caillou said, being careful not to spill any of the fish food. He was very proud to have this important job. “Wow, look at them go! They must be really hungry,” Caillou observed. “Now, how about we all get our paints and brushes and paint some pictures of our new fishy friends?” the teacher suggested. However, Caillou thought the fish still looked hungry. Maybe they needed more food. Caillou imagined himself swimming in the aquarium with all the fish. “Hello, goldfish! Peekaboo! It’s supper time!” Caillou pretended to feed the fish. “You’re giving them too much food,” his friend warned. But they were still hungry. Some fish, especially greedy goldfish, just keep eating and eating. They sometimes die from too much food. “Oh no!” Caillou realized he didn’t want to hurt the fish by giving them too much food. “You see that green stuff? It’s called algae. Too much of it is bad for the fish too,” the teacher explained. “Here, I’ll clean it off.” Caillou learned that snails eat algae, so he decided to bring some from home. “You have snails? Wow! And they like to eat this green gunk? To them, it’s as delicious as chocolate cake,” Caillou shared. “Do you have an aquarium at home?” Caillou asked his friend. “Yes, my dad and I take care of it. It’s bigger than this one and has lots more fish,” his friend replied. “Do you ever pretend you’re a deep-sea diver and you’re swimming in your aquarium?” Caillou asked. “Sure, all the time,” his friend answered. Caillou and his friend continued to talk about their aquariums and the different types of fish. “See that fish there? That’s a swordtail. Sometimes I pretend that I’m holding its tail and riding all around the aquarium,” Caillou shared. “I did too,” his friend added. “What are the other fish called?” Caillou asked. “That striped one is called the zebra fish, the black one is a tetra, and the one with the big top fin is a sailfin molly. And that’s a hermit crab. They find old seashells and move into them, like moving into a new house,” his friend explained. “Lee Woon, you certainly know a lot about fish. Maybe you could tell us more about them to help us make our pictures,” the teacher suggested. “Day One’s got a really big aquarium at home, and she’s going to bring in some snails to eat up all the yucky algae,” Caillou shared. “Is your aquarium big enough for sharks?” Caillou asked Lee Woon. “It’s not that big,” Lee Woon replied. “I’m going to paint a picture of us being pulled by a swordtail fish,” Caillou said, excitedly. Caillou knew that Lee Woon wouldn’t be so shy anymore because she was making lots of friends. “Come explore with me, exploring, exploring. Take a trip with me, exploring, exploring. There’s lots for us to see,” Caillou sang as he imagined going on adventures and exploring different places. “Caillou in the bayou, Caillou in the bayou,” Caillou sang, imagining himself in the bayou.
One very hot summer’s day, Caillou and his family went on a trip to the country. “There should be a sign for the lake around here somewhere,” Caillou’s dad said. Caillou enjoyed looking at all the road signs they passed. “That’s a deer, right Caillou? That’s a deer crossing sign,” his dad explained. “Do deer read signs like people?” Caillou asked. “No, then how do they know to cross here?” Caillou wondered. “The sign is for us to know that deer cross here so we can drive carefully,” his dad replied. Finally, they found a sign for the lake and decided to give it a try. “I hope this is the right place,” Caillou said excitedly. “Come on, Rosie, we’re going swimming!” Caillou called out to his little sister. However, when they arrived, they realized it was a swamp instead of a lake. Caillou took a closer look at the water and noticed that it looked dirty and he couldn’t see the bottom. “It smells funny,” Caillou commented. His mom reminded him to be respectful of the animals that live there. “What animals?” Caillou asked. “Shh, they’re very shy. We’ll have to be very quiet and listen to find them,” his mom whispered. Caillou wondered what was making the sound he heard. “Ah, mosquitoes,” his mom said. Luckily, she had brought mosquito repellent to protect them from bug bites. Caillou learned that some swamps are big and full of flamingos and alligators, but there weren’t any alligators in this swamp. Caillou started to find the swamp more interesting as he discovered dragonflies, tadpoles, and other creatures. They found a daddy frog and his babies and Caillou carefully returned the babies to their father. They decided to have their lunch in a good spot by the swamp. Caillou was determined to cross a small stream by himself and made it to the other side proudly. His dad gave him binoculars to spot animals, and Caillou imagined himself as an explorer in a huge swamp. He spotted a baby alligator and a mommy alligator from a safe distance. Caillou even pointed out a log that looked like an alligator and a baby alligator. They also saw a blue heron hunting for fish. Caillou enjoyed the swamp but was glad there weren’t any real alligators. When they finished exploring, Caillou realized he got dirty and would need to wash up when they got home. On the way back, they saw the sign for the lake and Caillou asked if he could wash there. Caillou pretended to be an alligator as he dried off. He noticed a couple of mosquito bites on his skin and his mom gave him something to help with the itch. Caillou was proud of his marks as a swamp explorer, and even Rosie and their dad had some marks too.
