Alessia Russo breaks down her skills in scoring masterclass | Masterclass | BBC Sport

Touch oh both sides now Alessia Russo had everyone in a frenzy last summer with that outrageous back hill hang it in the Louvre they said so I’ve come to Manchester for a catch-up and a master class in some close range finishing [Music] that’s good to see you you’re one of the most creative finishers in the WSL but before we get into the master class I just need three tips to be a top top Striker obviously making runs into the back line setting yourself with your first touch and then obviously scoring the fun part I believe we’re going to go into a little forward runs drill I’m gonna have to step up and try and be tuned you know the standard was high last yeah yeah I’ve seen them well what you gotta watch out for Imogen because last Master glass was SUNY imagine wiped me out oh but this drill here what we’re going to be doing uh just a little run around the mannequin for a slip pass so if you’re in this position on the pitch where you’re trying to break the back line how would you decide which movement to do well I think first obviously you’ve got to stay outside as a striker you kind of know where the goal is so just as soon as that Ball’s played getting a contact on it before the Defenders can track back in and as a forward you’re always taught opposites long to come short to go long yeah why does that make it difficult for for a Defender I think just any type of double movement can like set them off balance and it’s kind of like a bit of a game of cat and mouse really just always having one up on them and and making sure you’re in the best positions to score on that should we give it a go yeah let’s go less this is a position on the pitch you find yourself in often what movement are you going to do here first one I’m just going to check back off the mannequin receive first touch and finish on my second hopefully that easy yeah yeah I just got to worry about the past right all right let’s go right you ready yep finish Imogen was waving that’s what we’re doing next what’s it what’s a different movement you can do to to get in to score a goal I’ll start this side and I’ll run Blind Side for you to slip it in and then it’ll be a one-time I got a liner you know gotta stay on side yeah all right you ready yeah finish R1 circle on smack what things are you thinking about because obviously the timing’s got to be good to beat the offside trap yeah but you’ve also got to be set to be able to finish first time on a ball like that I either have to bend it or cut back across her so yeah just making sure I get good contact you happy with the delivery yeah yeah it was great two nesca yeah can I have that one on the CV yeah you can right last movement that’s what’s a different way that you can get in off the back of the defender sometimes like coming in front of the line to then dip back in so that one was in behind so maybe just coming in front to go back everything’s a double movement yeah yeah let’s give it a go okay three out of three yeah yeah ready yeah touch finish and we see you in these positions where you’re going through one-on-one but we always see you chipping in with headers as well and the forward movements in the Box are a little bit different so we’re going to get my sturdy Center halves in the box and we’ll talk through some movements on how you score from from crosses and further forward okay [Applause] [Music] when I watch you play you’re always in space what’s different here than further up the pitch to get you that yard to finish off a cross or a ball into the box I think it’s quite similar just being like one yard off just questioning whether they can look at the ball or look at you and then again using your strength last minute getting in front of them or behind them to get on the end of it the movement was good though good movement [Music] yeah great header got there in the end got there in the end how would you practice that in training so in a game it’s second nature I think just like I like to just get loads of represent and sometimes I can’t anticipate the ball coming back post and have to change like my run last minute so yeah just staying a lot so we’ve done forward runs what’s next first touch received the best strikers your touch can also change where the goalkeeper is and their movement how do you use that to make scoring and hitting those Corners easier the most entry you can take your first touch the better if you take it to one-sided then they can often read where where you’re going to hit it hopefully imogen’s going to be guessing a little bit in this drill so we’ve set up a little area here so the first touch has got to be nice and tight yeah and I’m going to be firing the balls in from three different angles keep the first touch in the in the Square yep and then it’s a finished top corner I hope all right Les you ready yep yep first up touch finish images just waving touch oh both sides so knitting all right last one three out of three touch it’s hot that’s a good round of finish it I love it three out of three how did you decide which area of the Box enabled that world-class finishing well from that one I knew I was gonna have to take get on my left foot so if I’d set myself here then either just whip it in either Corner that one I think you’re Central on but I always want to set it on my right foot so yeah just aiming for bottom corners and same with that one three out of three that’s top class now an opportunity for Russo and it’s Alessia Russo with her fifth goal of the Season good luck for the rest of wso season thank you United are fly in your room with a good chance yeah big big few months coming up so looking forward to it thanks so much no worries thank you
